Montreal’s Talamyus was formed in 2002 in order to bring the viking metal sound to a scene where it was all but absent. Combining the epic atmosphere of Amon Amarth, the merciless rumble of Bolt Thrower and the thrashing power of Kreator, Talamyus infuses old school riffs with modern ferocity and edge.
Releasing As Long As It Flows… in 2005 on Great White North Records, the band made an immediate impact on Montreal’s local scene with a sold out album launch at the notorious Café Chaos. Support slots and touring alongside the likes of Moonsorrow, Augury, Unexpect and Necronomicon followed, establishing Talamyus as a staple of live metal in Québec. In 2007, …in These Days Of Violence was released on Prodisk records, with an album launch headlined by Finntroll leading into Canadian tours in support of Kalmah and Krisiun. More live dates followed with bands such as Kataklysm, Tyr, Destruction, 1349 and more as Talamyus prepared a third opus, Raven’s Call To Annihilation. This album was released in 2011 on PRC Records and was supported on a Canadian tour with Arkona, as well as many Canadian one-off shows including a support slot for Sepultura. The band rounded out their first 10 years of activity with the addition of Étienne Gallo (Augury, Quadrivium, ex-Neuraxis, ex-Aborted) on drums.
With this new solidified team, the band is now preparing to record their fourth full-length album, Honour is our Pride, Death is the Reward. Mixing in new influences like Dissection and Enslaved, it will carry a stylistic shift from death/thrash metal to melodic black metal, all while retaining the familiar viking flavour. “We are sure old and new Talamyus fans will be pleased with the direction we have chosen to take for the next album,” comments guitarist/vocalist and co-founder Benoît St-Jean. “It will still have the Talamyus feel, but with an altered atmosphere. We are very eager to share it with you all!”
